The PlayStation 5 has now entered its third year, which doesn't mean that Sony doesn't already have initial plans in place for the launch of the next-generation console, which will most likely be called the PS6.
According to the reverse website, new documents that Sony submitted to the UK Competition and Markets Authority known as (CMA) have emerged, through which the time frame in which the upcoming Sony PlayStation 6 device could be launched appeared, which was specified on the eighth page of the document. consisting of 22 pages.
The information provided to the competition authority does indeed lay bare Sony’s concerns that it will lose the rights to the Call of Duty shooter title and other Activision titles by 2027. As shown, the date showing the possible launch of the next PS6 was shaded, but linked the year 2027 to the loss of the Activision title. This strongly suggests the timeframe for the launch of Sony’s next device. Where the document stated, “translated:
By the time Sony launched its next-generation PlayStation console, which it would likely expect to launch around a “shader,” it would have lost access to Call of Duty and other Activision titles, leaving it highly vulnerable to users abandoning the platform and subsequent damage to its competitiveness.
In any case, given that Microsoft has offered to make Activision's titles available on PlayStation platforms until 2027, given that Sony's next-gen console will have already been released by then, we can conclude that the next PS6 will be planned for late 2027. Or early 2028. This timeframe will be very consistent with the life cycles of previous Sony devices.
The PS3 was released in 2006, followed by the PS4 in late 2013. Finally, the PS5 also launched in late 2020. This indicates that the average length of all sessions is at least seven years. Of course, this could change this generation, as nothing is official yet.
