Sony files patent to improve sound system in video games

Sony has filed a patent to improve voice communication in video games through a system dedicated to it, as this patent is based on better filtering external noise.

The Japanese company has been known for working on high-quality audio systems for decades, and its audio products on the market are proof of that. As this new system that Sony is working on can benefit in all games that support voice chat in games like Back 4 Blood, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and others.

While the system and speed of the network connection remain the primary controls on the quality of sound during conversations, improvements in audio systems in recent years have greatly improved quality and eliminated background noise that distracts listeners while the microphone is in operation.

The new technology that Sony is working on and has patented to maintain its ownership of, relies on focusing modern, high-quality microphone systems to determine what sounds will and won't be transmitted within the game. This is in theory so far, so there should be no more annoying background noises, whether in game lobbies or during the game's multiplayer mode.

At this point, it is unclear how Sony intends to adopt this technology, either in terms of designing specific headphones to be put on the market that support this technology, or through support for all of the company's products or sound systems, which we hope will happen.
