Having acquired studios such as Bungie, Housemarque, Bluepoint Games and Firesprite in recent years, Sony has expanded its studios responsible for first-party titles, and the expectation is that the company will continue to invest in these acquisitions for the future, the most recent of which is Ballistic Moon it seems.
This acquisition has not yet been disclosed. As Colin Moriarty of Last Stand Media points out, the British studio Ballistic Moon is listed as owned by Sony on PitchBook.com, a website and data company with offices around the world. The studio's page on PitchBook's website refers to its status as a merger, with Sony listed as the studio's parent company.
What's up with Ballistic Moon, the studio working with PlayStation on Project Bates? Sony hasn't publicly acknowledged the team... so it's interesting that it was bought out.

There have been indications from Sony itself that the studio was under the PlayStation Studios umbrella. The company recently posted a “Senior Dialogue Designer” ad to work on major AAA projects with PlayStation studios that were all mentioned in the ad, as the respective studio appeared on that list. Now the studio’s name has been removed from the list entirely.
The studio was founded in 2019, and the members of Ballistic Moon have a long history of working with Sony. The studio is made up of former Supermassive Games developers, many of whom have worked on major titles like Until Dawn.
Reports have also indicated that the studio is working on a PlayStation exclusive title codenamed Project Bates, and it is supposed to be a horror title, according to those reports.
