During its earnings release for the second quarter of the current fiscal year, Sony confirmed that the increase in the price of the PlayStation 5 did not affect the participation rate and demand for the device in global markets by consumers.
It is worth noting that Sony, under the pretext of inflation and the low price of the Japanese yen, worked to raise the price of the device by 10% in all global markets except the American market.
This step, although it comes in difficult times with regard to economic conditions at the consumer level, but it seems that the price increase has not affected the degree of demand for the purchase of the PlayStation 5. As the quantities that reach the market are still disappearing quickly.
Sony revealed that more than 100,000 units were sold in about 17 hours after its launch in the North American market, and while the latter was not affected by the decision to increase prices, the same is happening in European markets and the rest of the world, where Sony is preparing to pump out more than 18 million units to cover demand for the device during the current fiscal year.
Sony also confirmed that it produced more than 6.5 million PlayStation 5 devices during the second quarter of the current fiscal year, which ended on September 30. Yesterday, it was also announced that global sales of the device surpassed the 25 million loneliness.
Sony is working in cooperation with international partners to overcome the crisis in the production of the PlayStation 5, through various plans that have not yet been disclosed, but there are leaks that speak of the company's willingness to reveal a new model that does not include a disc drive, which will be sold separately, and will be cheaper to produce and also plug in.
The company also confirmed that it is developing a plan to sell 30 million units during the upcoming fiscal year 2023 after confirming that the production plan for the device has started witnessing a significant improvement recently.
Meanwhile, the Japanese company is preparing to promote its second-generation device, the PlayStation Virtual Reality Glasses PSVR2, whose release date was recently revealed. It will be available in global markets next February at a price of US$1,450. More details can be found in our upcoming report.
