While we're on the cusp of the first major return of one of this year's most iconic video game shows, it looks like E3 2023 will be missing three of the video game industry's giants.

IGN, via undisclosed private sources, has confirmed that PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo will not be present at this year's E3 2023 in any capacity. This means that these three companies will not have private conferences and will not be present in private showrooms.

Speaking to IGN last week, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer said that he is working on a separate conference that could coincide with this year's E3. However, it appears that Microsoft has no plans to set aside a special booth to showcase its games or platforms at the show.

Xbox's decision not to officially be present on the E3 show floor comes as a surprise, as Microsoft has supported the show's activities in various ways over the past few years. It appears that the show will not feature many of the anticipated Xbox titles, most notably the game Starfield.

While Nintendo has continually maintained its presence at the E3 show, even after adopting the “Direct” event to showcase its games, however, according to IGN, it has heard from some industry sources that neither Nintendo nor Sony will be present at E3 2023.

We know that PlayStation has discontinued its partnership with E3 since 2019 due to disagreements with the show's curators. Although it has only held its own events, such as the State of Play event and the Playstation ShowCase events, which are held separately.

However, we have not received official confirmation from the exhibition supervisors or the three companies that were not actually present at the exhibition as of the time of writing this report.

The E3 2023 exhibition will begin in mid-June (6) this year, as it will be the first time the exhibition will be held in person and with the presence of the media and gaming community since 2019.

Do you think the absence of the three giants of the video game industry will have a negative impact on the strength of the show, and do you think this absence will be the beginning of the end for one of the biggest video game exhibitions?
