There have been reports that Microsoft is working on bringing the enhanced Halo Combat Evolved game to the PS5 platform.

The information came via a report published by The Verge, which stated that the game is currently in the early stages of development for the Sony platform within Xbox Studios. The source stated that the game comes within a package of titles that Microsoft intends to bring to the PlayStation and Nintendo platforms, which comes under the name “Project Latitude”.

While Microsoft already has a strong foothold on competing platforms thanks to Call of Duty and Minecraft, Xbox recently announced plans to bring more titles to the PlayStation and Nintendo Switch platforms, starting with Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, and Grounded.

The report indicated that Microsoft intends to bring major titles including Hellblade 2, Microsoft Flight Simulator and the new Doom, which are expected to be revealed during next week's Xbox event, to the PS5 platform. These titles are included in the internally announced Project Latitude project.

On the other hand, the report touched on other titles including Fable and Gears of War, which are rumored to be currently in development, and which will not be part of Project Latitude at this time, indicating that these titles may not find their way to the PS5 platform any time soon.

If these leaks about Halo Combat Evolved coming to PS5 are true, it seems like Microsoft is looking to follow Sony's strategy of publishing first-party games outside of its platforms. This involves bringing live service games and older games outside of Xbox platforms to release on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch platforms. Although new story titles will be temporarily exclusive to Xbox platforms and Game Pass.

We'll just have to wait and see more about this strategy, which has yet to be confirmed, during the Xbox Games Showcase event, which will begin next Sunday.
