A source close to Activision, who is familiar with the company's future plans for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, claims that the multiplayer (online) game will become free-to-play starting in mid-December.

According to insider-gaming, the mid-season update will be available on December 14, while the game's free giveaway will begin on December 15 and continue until December 19.

The source did not reveal the nature of the mid-season update's content, but there are high expectations that we will witness the return of the famous Shipment map to multiplayer.

The source also indicated that Activision is preparing to announce the Double XP campaign, which is expected to kick off later this week.

The notable thing about the new information, according to the source, is that the Black Ops Cold War game will also receive a new update, but it has not been disclosed whether this update is just a regular update or if it will bring new content to the game.

Additionally, as part of the World Cup, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is set to receive a game mode called COD Ball, where players will drive ATVs to hit a giant ball and score goals in a style similar to the game Rocket League.

Earlier this month, the journalist reported Jason Schreyer Bloomberg's editor reports that Sledgehammer Games will develop content for the second year of Modern Warfare 2, which is believed to be a "premium" title that will cost the same as the full game, US$$70.

Unfortunately, Activision has not revealed any official details about its plans for 2023 as of this writing, and whether there is already a huge amount of paid content being worked on for the current game.

Will you try out the online mode in Modern Warfare 2 if it becomes available for free next month?
