Rockstar Updates Its Policy Regarding Real-Life GTA5 RP Servers

Surprisingly, Rockstar has updated its single-player usage policy, but this time it includes real-life GTA5 RP servers for the first time.

The announcement came via an official statement published on Rockstar's official blog and widely shared across social media platforms.

Perhaps what matters most to many players and fans of real-life modifications in the GTA series is the company's stance on the matter and whether it will negatively impact those modifications. In this report, we'll outline the most important points covered in the major statement released on the official blog.

Are GTA5 RP RPG servers allowed under the new policy?

Rockstar Games has always believed in the thoughtful creativity of fans and wants creators to showcase their passion for our games. These third-party role-playing servers are an extension of the rich set of community-created experiences in Grand Theft Auto, which we hope will continue to thrive in a safe and friendly manner for many years to come.

This is not a license and does not constitute an endorsement, approval, or authorization of any Third Party Project. Take-Two reserves the right to object to any Third Party Project or to revise, cancel, and/or withdraw this Statement at any time in its sole discretion. This Statement does not constitute a waiver of any rights Take-Two may have with respect to Third Party Projects.

But what does this mean?

Based on the developer's statement, Take-Two wants to take action against servers that don't carry the Rockstar Games trademark or title. This is because some people are using them to scam players or for other similar nefarious reasons.

The new usage policy updates also prohibit the sale of loot boxes for real money, as well as their equivalent in in-game currency. You can't sell them for virtual currency within these mods, nor can you generate revenue through corporate sponsorships or the use of cryptocurrencies or crypto assets like NFTs. This is a clear stance from the publisher against NFTs or any form of crypto.

Why this time for a policy change?

There's been a significant and apparent increase in GTA5 RP servers featuring crypto items, loot boxes, and NFTs for sale. According to a press release from last October, a server dedicated to rapper Lil Durk has emerged, offering a Trenches Pass bundle that includes loot boxes for GTA Online, access to the RP server, and other perks.

This may be Rockstar's move to prevent the trade of external elements that are inconsistent with its policy in its games, even if they are third-party modifications.

This is the most important thing in Rockstar's statement about updating its individual games' usage policy, including real-life GTA5 RP servers, and we'll update the report if we get more details.
