Capcom recently released some general revenue and financial news about its games and forecasts for the current fiscal year that track games that have sold over 1 million copies. As of December 31, 2022, the publisher revealed that Resident Evil has sold 11.2 million copies to date. It has sold over 10 million copies as of July 2022, with over 1 million additional copies sold since September 30, 2022.
Resident Evil Village has sold around 7.4 million copies, while the third installment has sold around 6.4 million copies since its release in 2020. As for the title Resident Evil 7: biohazard, it has sold approximately 11.7 million copies, which means that over 700 copies have been sold since the end of last year until now. Overall, the series is selling very well, ahead of the release of Resident Evil 4 on March 24, 2024.
Released on Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC, the game is a remake of the classic horror title we first saw in 2005. The story sees Resident Evil 2 protagonist Leon investigating Los Iluminados to rescue the boss's daughter. The new version features many improvements over the original version. The same graphics and gameplay of wielding multiple knives, plus more improvements.
The game was built almost from scratch, being developed by three teams at Capcom. The company learned from the mistakes of the previous remake of the third part and listened to the players, and therefore changed much of its philosophy in the development of the upcoming remake.
