Patent: Sony is working on an interactive “avatar” system

Over the past few years, we've heard about numerous patents filed by Sony from time to time. According to its latest patent, the company is working to create a kind of insignificance in users' digital images, or what it calls an "avatar."

In the company's latest patent, we see a patent dedicated to the "avatar" that is present on PlayStation devices in general, as it will be three-dimensional and will display players' emotions, thus providing a new way for players to interact with each other as part of the platform's communities, such as posting their most popular videos.

Sony - Avatar Interativo

In terms of player emotions, Sony is designing new facial recognition technology and scanning it to look for different user expressions, whether they're happy or sad and things like that, and then that mood will be put into the digital image attached to the profile picture, but projected with a 3D "avatar."

Designing facial expressions with 3D characters isn't unique; we've already seen it with the iPhone X phones released in 2017. What's interesting is that it's with a big brand like Sony and on a home gaming platform.

Taking a step back, we'll see a unique "what if" system that identifies and displays hypothetical game scenarios relevant to the player's context. In other words, it predicts the possibilities the player might pursue if they so choose, and this, of course, is appropriate for games that offer more than one path to completing tasks.

So that different possibilities can be explored. We hope to see any of these inventions in action someday.
