Knockout City developer Velan Studios has announced that the upcoming update will be the game’s final update. Velan Studios promises that its new content, Knockout City Season 9, will have players partying before the servers shut down later this year.
In a post on the Knockout City website, the game director announced Jeremy Russo Season 9 of the game will be the final wave of new content for the game. Public servers will shut down on June 6, 2023, just over two years after the game's launch. Russo praised the work and creativity of Knockout City's developers and players who have remained with the game.
The title had collaborations with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, introduced several maps and balls, and released 8 seasons of quirky cosmetic items that players enjoyed. Despite these things, the challenges of keeping the game running were difficult for developer Velan Studio.
Season 9 content will begin on February 28 and will run for 12 weeks, leading up to one final event before the servers shut down. There will be six events during this period that will bring new changes to the game. With the start of Season 9, all financial transactions will be removed.
The game was released in May 2021 as part of the EA Originals series of games. Unfortunately, critical acclaim and a free-to-play system in June 2022 didn't stop it from suffering the same fate as smaller service games.
