Fans of developer Neather Realm's fighting games have always been preoccupied with mystery and rumors surrounding work on Mortal Kombat 12 or Injustice 3, but it looks like the next installment in the fighting series will be a new installment of the Mortal Kombat game, as has been officially announced.

During Andrew Slabin's Warner Bros. earnings call, which ended moments ago, it was confirmed that Mortal Kombat 12 is in development, and will actually be released later this year, without announcing a specific release date, and this is what we honestly consider to be the unofficial game announcement we've been waiting for.

The news came from YouTuber Valliant Renegade who was listening to the publisher's earnings call, when it was presented to investors about the performance of its gaming division, as Warner Bros. boasts of the success of Hogwarts Legacy before moving on to other titles it has such as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which we saw its new trailer recently during the PlayStation State of Play event, where it was stated in the earnings call by Andrew Slabin:

There's much more to come, including Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, games that will be released this year with ambitious release expectations.

While it's unlikely the game will launch alongside the launch of competing fighting game Street Fighter 6, we'll likely see an official announcement for Mortal Kombat 12 this summer, at the next E3 2023 event, or perhaps during the upcoming holiday season. It's also been confirmed that the upcoming title will be the developer's longest-running supported title.
