Finally, after many rumors, leaks and uncertainty, it has been announced that Counter-Strike 2 will be released this summer.

The announcement comes in line with newly-published videos on Valve's official YouTube channel that explain some of the new technologies coming to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

The first video discussed Counter-Strike 2's new gameplay engine, which will make smoke bombs in the game dynamic and new. The bombs will have a different shape than usual, meaning every player sees the same smoke, and that smoke can interact with lighting and even when bullets pass through it.

The second Counter-Strike 2 trailer discussed the “new look” of the maps coming to the new installment. Some maps will remain exactly the same in terms of appearance and strategy, but will receive minor lighting improvements, while others will see more interesting improvements thanks to the Source 2 engine.

This new lighting will have realistic reflections, depending on the material the light is reflecting off of. However, older Counter-Strike maps will be completely rebuilt from scratch, making use of “all the tools in Source 2 to showcase all the features.”

As we mentioned, this news comes after years of rumors that reached an unprecedented stage last week, when sources said that the presence of CS2 code in the showcase indicates that the new part is approaching. These files have already been leaked online referring to the Source 2 engine. Valve registered the trademark just a few days ago, and today's announcement confirms that all the leaks were true.
