Mortal Kombat series creator Ed Boon, who is considered its godfather, has dashed the hopes and fans of his fans by insisting that nothing was announced during the recently concluded awards ceremony.
Fans of the series around the world were optimistic that developer NetherRealm Studios would showcase its next title during the global event, which is the perfect time to showcase such high-profile titles. Unfortunately, that didn't happen, but it looks like fans won't have to wait any longer. Not only for the title reveal, but also for the actual release.
In response to fan questions on Twitter, Ed Boon, creator of the Mortal Kombat and Injustice series, indirectly confirmed that the studio's next game could be released sometime in 2023, which is considered both a surprising and "expected" reveal. Keep in mind that developer NetherRealm Studios hasn't shared any new announcements in a long time, aside from celebrating our anniversary.
I really shouldn't 23-answer that.

This confirms that the developer's next announcement won't be far off, as the series creator has confirmed on more than one occasion that we'll likely see an announcement within the next six months. This is evidenced by his response to a Twitter follower.
Likely

While it's still unclear whether developer NetherRealm Studios' next game will be an entirely new title, a new Injustice game, or more likely a new Mortal Kombat, the studio seems determined to support the game for a long time, as it's expected to be the developer's longest-supported title to date. This aligns with what Ed Boon shared. Where MK11 had the longest support, the next title will be even longer.
MK11 support was the longest we've supported a game. The next game should be even longer.

In any case, the series creator previously allowed players to ask what they wanted and promised a thorough answer, one of whom cut through the doubt with certainty and asked directly about Neather Realm's next project. The director's answer was very blunt, saying it could be Mortal Kombat 12 or Injustice 3. However, at the same time, he didn't deny the existence of a different project.
