In conjunction with the launch of the new shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 that was released a few days ago, we share with you the developer's controversial decision regarding the game's requirement to register your phone number to access the game online.
Much like the recently released free-to-play game Overwatch 2, Modern Warfare 2 will require a valid phone number to confirm permanent login and activation on your Battle.net account. You'll pass your phone number to the account associated with the game.
This new system generated controversy among players at the time, but publisher Activision recently clarified that users of the PC version of the game are concerned about this procedure, and this has nothing to do with users of Xbox and PlayStation home consoles.
Therefore, players playing on PlayStation and Xbox devices will not need to provide a phone number to fill out registration details and access the game, as PC players will have to provide a phone number when entering confirmation information to access multiplayer, and this was confirmed in a blog post. This is the same platform that Battle.net first worked on in May 2020 and will also be expanded to the Steam store versions.
These conditions are reported to have caused some issues with users when Overwatch 2 was recently released, especially those using prepaid phone lines, as they were unable to complete the registration process and activate the two-factor authentication system. Which led the developer to give up the feature for some users.
