Developer Like A Dragon has praised social services and their contribution to the games' popularity, saying that the Yakuza series became popular among gamers because of the service. Do Japanese games need this kind of advertising?
Just like A Dragon's representative, Ryu Ga Gotoku gave an interview to Twinfinite. In it, he praised socialist services and cited his significant contribution to making the Yakuza series playable outside of Japan.
The studio highlighted Xbox Game Pass, but we’re also expanding PS Plus, which recently included a wide range of games from the series, to Extra and Premium subscribers. Here’s what the studio had to say about these services:
In terms of audience, I think we were particularly attracted to my Western players. It's hard to say whether that's because of the multiple platforms or if it's because we changed the genre and the hero of Yakuza.
We believe that subscriptions like Game Pass, which allow people to play previous games over the years, have greatly increased viewership.
It is reported that the development team has dropped the Yakuza series name and is now called by the aforementioned name. The team started their stance by changing the series name and announcing several new titles that you can watch here.
I don't know if you agree with the team about the contribution of social services to making games more popular. But it really contributed a lot to players getting to know the series and others.
In previous news, the team revealed its intention to change the game's graphics engine and perhaps move to the well-known Unreal Engine 5. The reason for this transition is due to the power of said engine and, on the other hand, to the passing of many years of use of the old series engine.
