The Avalanche Studios group known for developing Just Cause announced the dismissal of 50 employees from its total staff or the equivalent of 9% of its employees in addition to the closure of two branches of the group, one in Montreal, Canada and the other in New York, America.

The massive wave of layoffs that hit the gaming industry is still being felt. It’s safe to say that most companies and game studios have already been affected and have taken the necessary measures, but for Avalanche Studios, the measures taken were too little too late.

The developer of the Just Cause and Mad Max games did not want to implement such a decision, but the options before him were few given the conditions the industry is going through. Either make this decision that will reduce financial expenses or take a riskier measure, which is to completely close the group or put it up for sale.

The group had 5 branches, and after announcing the closure of two of them, the number of branches became three: two branches in Malmö, Stockholm, Sweden, and another in Liverpool, United Kingdom, Great Britain. Here is what the team said in its statement:

“This decision was very difficult, but we believe it is necessary to ensure a stable and sustainable future for the company going forward. Our focus now is to support all of our employees during this difficult time. “We are grateful for the invaluable contributions of those who have left and remain committed to creating incredible gaming experiences for our players.”

The team is known for its remarkable achievements in the gaming world, as they are currently working on their new project, Contraband, which you can learn more about during the Summer Game Fest event that will be launched in the coming days.
