There are still many legal and illegal attempts to find ways to run many unreleased PlayStation games on the computer through the PlayStation 4 emulator that works without any problems. Even though almost a decade has passed since the launch of the last generation console.

We know that there are many obstacles for emulator developers to play PlayStation games, or other consoles. Both legal ones, as well as a multitude of technical and software issues that have also prevented all PS3 games from being played, even though 16 years have passed since their release.

In a surprising development, the team behind the PlayStation 4 emulator, called “fpPS4”, is also claiming to be the fourth emulator. It runs over 26 commercial games, as well as 12 homebrew games on a home computer running a 64-bit Windows 10 operating system environment.

So far, no high-quality Triple-A games like Bloodborne, Ghost of Tsushima or The Last of Us Part 2 have been played. But is this a big step forward for these developers?

In a related context, it is reported that developer InoriRus has revised the first emulator to play PS4 games as well as the new generation PS5 on PC. The emulator is available for free download but is still in the early stages of development. To learn more, click here.

In the meantime, we may see Sony loosening its grip on the PlayStation 4 platform, continuing to focus on the PlayStation 5. Sony may start to phase out last-gen support in less than two years, and with the improved production of the PlayStation 5, which has started to break out of the bottleneck with the current fiscal year and drive its sales faster and faster.

This could cause Sony to give up some of its support for system protection and save effort and money to focus completely on the new generation, and thus we may witness the expansion of piracy of PlayStation 4 games and emulators, as is the case with past generations.
