Kojima: New technologies will help shape Death Stranding 2's realism

Kojima Productions seems to want to keep up with cutting-edge technology when releasing games, so it seems Death Stranding 2 won't surpass the first game. And while it will be a while before we get specific gameplay details, Hideo Kojima posted some interesting things on Twitter.

Something Kojima Productions seems to be focusing on with Death Stranding 2 is making the CG (images and graphics) more realistic, for which the studio invited Japanese lighting director Mayumi Nishiyama to give a talk. Kojima explained that since the studio only had experience with lighting in a game environment, the development team asked Nishiyama to "show them the basics of live lighting to teach them the technique."

Actress Shioli Kutsuna, who was confirmed for Death Stranding 2, served as a model for the technique. Kojima said:

It's difficult to accurately express Asian skin tone, dark hair, and eye color. Shioli's appearance in DS2 is a challenge for us. We'll be using new technologies not used in the previous game, but first we need to go back to the basics of visuals and start experimenting.

Details about “Death Stranding 2” remain quite hazy, although Kojima has released some information about what we can expect from its story, and interestingly, it was rewritten from scratch due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Death Stranding 2 is in development for the PS5 platform. The release date has not been officially confirmed, but there is a chance the game will launch next year.
