Sega has delayed Football Manager 2023 for the PlayStation 5 version at the last minute, just a week before its previously announced official release.

Sega said in an official statement published today that the sudden delay occurred after some issues were discovered during the game's presentation and final approval for publication was obtained.

While it has been stressed that these issues will be resolved, the publisher has ended pre-orders for Football Manager 2023 via the PlayStation 5 store and has begun refunding money to players who have already pre-ordered.

Commenting on the difficult decision, Miles Jacobson, Studio Director of Development at Sports Interactive, said:

We are shocked by this outcome, which we have been working tirelessly with our partners for several weeks to try to remedy.

The developer has confirmed that the decision to delay Football Manager 2023 was a very difficult one, especially since the development team had been working hard on the game, which was showing promising results before these unexpected issues appeared. Although it has been confirmed that they will work hard to release the game on PlayStation 5 as soon as possible.

Of course, this delay will not affect the version for other platforms, as the game will be released on Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC and smartphones promptly on November 8th.

The popular football simulation and strategic management game was officially announced with an official statement from Sports Interactive. It was then confirmed that it would be released first on the PlayStation platform, when these sudden issues appeared.

Football Manager is a football sports simulation game that is based on tactics, planning and numbers and its main idea is to develop plans and strategies, and supervise a football team in a complete and detailed way to train players and create the conditions for winning titles and championships.

The game will be available on the Microsoft Xbox Game Pass service from day one of its market launch, and will be released on Switch, Xbox and PC, and the name of each version will be determined by the target device, for example, the version for the initial platforms will be called Football Manager 2023 Console and the version for the Switch mobile device will be titled Football Manager 2023 Touch.
