The title Hogwarts Legacy generated widespread controversy due to its association with controversial Harry Potter author JK Rowling, who was criticized for her transphobic stance, but the game was a stunning success soon after its release.
While WB Games has yet to make any official announcements about its launch sales, the game has had a solid start on Steam. According to SteamDB, Hogwarts Legacy has over 879,308 active players and is the second-ranked single-player game title on Steam. The top spot goes to Cyberpunk 2077.
Hogwarts Legacy’s strong start was also reflected in its initial sales. The game debuted at the top of the UK’s weekly sales charts, outselling The Elden Ring’s launch sales in the region by 80%. 82% of Hogwarts Legacy’s sales came from the PS5, while the remaining 18% came from the Xbox Series X. It’s also worth noting that none of this represents digital game sales. Below, take a look at UK home console game sales over the past week.
