Sony has been facing a real crunch to obtain the semiconductors needed to manufacture and produce the PlayStation 5, but that crunch has begun to ease as the company has begun to secure more semiconductors and pump more next-gen devices into global markets.

Recently, and through one of the sessions with investors (via Zuby_Tech), AMD, which specializes in manufacturing chips and processors, revealed that Sony has become one of its largest customers and is responsible for 16 to 20% of the company's total financial revenue.

According to the revealed figures, Sony has purchased over US$1.776 billion worth of electronic chips to produce the PlayStation 5 alone. While the company has confirmed that these figures continue to grow over time.

On the other hand, Sony recently confirmed that the PlayStation 5 has become easy to obtain. These statements come after Sony successfully overcame the hurdle of production and shipping around the world.

Sony has announced that PlayStation 5 sales have surpassed 32 million units, while the company reported 202% growth in January this year.

Sony is developing a solid plan to accelerate the spread of its new device around the world, while gradually pulling the rug out from under its previous device, the PlayStation 4. Perhaps 2023 will constitute a big and real change from the previous generation to the new generation, after the device is already available on the market and is available for anyone who wants to upgrade.

Sony, for its part, has launched a massive promotional campaign around the world, the largest since the launch of the new device in 2020, with the aim of significantly increasing sales of the PlayStation 5. While it aims to launch 23 different first and third-party titles during this year 2023, most of them will be released on the new device, while it will exclude the latest generation, which will only receive 8 titles shared with them.

This campaign was accompanied by Sony's call to the community to upgrade from the previous generation to the new generation in order to take advantage of the distinct and innovative capabilities.

This also coincided with the launch of the new generation of PSVR2 virtual reality headsets, associated mainly with the PS5. Sony is counting on the significant growth in sales of the PlayStation 5 to positively reflect on sales of its new headsets.

The increase in sales of the PlayStation 5 also had an impact on game sales, especially new ones, where a great demand for the game Hogwarts Legacy was recently revealed, which took a big leap in its first week on the market and even surpassed the game Elden Ring in 80% during the same period.

Of course, a large part of the game's sales were for the PlayStation 5, which represented more than 82% of the version sold on home devices.
