Former CEO: Xbox must get closer to PlayStation and Nintendo to “survive”…

Microsoft Gaming's size now justifies having some Xbox games on PlayStation and Nintendo platforms, former Microsoft executive Mike Ybarra said. Ybarra's remarks came after the Xbox chief confirmed that more first-party games will come to more platforms in the future.

Ybarra, who spent two decades at Microsoft, acknowledged public concerns about the future of Xbox as first-party games become multiplatform. However, he believes Microsoft Gaming has moved beyond selling home consoles and needs to focus on its ambition to become the world's largest publisher.

Ybarra said:

“We need to put emotion aside and focus on the teams, the players and the business – and make tough decisions. Given the size of Microsoft Gaming right now, it’s unsustainable not to embrace it across all platforms. They’re taking their players on this journey and it’s not easy, but this is the right plan for their teams and their players.”

He added that he feels comfortable with the strategy that Spencer talks about in the press, when he stated in a recent interview with IGN that more and more of his games will be ported to other platforms, in a clear reference to the PlayStation and Nintendo platforms.

Microsoft hasn't said which games it plans to release on PS5 and NS in the future, but rumors have it that Halo is currently being worked on to prepare it for release on the aforementioned platforms.

It seems that Microsoft, with this step, wants to open the doors for the gradual arrival of the Halo game on the PS5 and NS platforms in the future. But what is the next title? Will we see Starfield soon on the PS5 platform, at least? Will we see a relaunch of the Gears series also for the Sony platform? With Spencer's statements and Ybarra's predictions, get ready for more Xbox games on the Sony and Nintendo platforms.
