Experts: Using PlayStation 5 vertically can “kill the device”, so what’s the reason!

According to many reports from repair experts, they have confirmed that using the PlayStation 5 in a vertical position can lead to the death of the device due to a defect in the device's cooling system.

Although Sony has marketed the device as being safe to use in either a horizontal or vertical position, the latter position may cause Liquid Metal to leak and cause malfunctions that can never be repaired.

Liquid Metal is used in the PlayStation 5’s cooling system because it helps to quickly dissipate heat and dissipate it through the cooling system. This material fits perfectly between the APU and a cover connected to the cooling system or a copper heatsink. But if the device is placed vertically, it will cause this material to respond to vertical gravity and leak from its location to the outside. This can cause two problems:

Problems to expect if Liquid Metal leaks on PlayStation 5

the first, The conductive material, Liquid Metal, comes out of its place, thus separating the heat sink from the APU, which will cause the system to overheat, which can cause the device to stop after a short period of operation or the processing unit to completely fail.

The second, When Liquid Metal leaks, it can reach various areas of the motherboard and cause a connection process between the components, which will cause an electrical short circuit and, thus, the total death of the motherboard.

Although these reasons are quite logical, no complaints have been recorded from users of the PlayStation 5 device with any such malfunction. But perhaps if the device was repaired due to malfunction or the cooling system was tampered with in an opening by non-specialized people, this can cause a Liquid Metal leak and one of the above-mentioned problems can occur.

In any case, we are trying to contact Sony to comment on this issue, and we are waiting for a response from them. We will share updates with you on this if we receive any response or comment from the company.

Until then, share with us whether you use your PS5 in portrait or landscape mode?
