Many people believe that The Last of Us is about zombies, especially those who are unfamiliar with the game on which the series is based. But what many people don't know is that the word "zombie" was banned on filming locations.

We weren't allowed to say the Z word on set. It was like a forbidden word. They referred to them as "the wounded." We're not a zombie show. Sure, there were scenes of tension and fear, but the show is about the characters and the wounded are an obstacle that they have to deal with.

It is worth noting that The Last of Us series and even the video game are talking about a fungal infection, not a virus, as is the case with zombies. This fungus, which has mutated to become highly contagious, is trying to infect the human mind and control it with a single purpose, which is to spread the infection on a large scale.

In The Last of Us, bites are one of the main ways to spread disease, and in the game as well. Although airborne germs are also a way to spread infections.
