The director of Ghost of Tsushima expressed his happiness with the success of The Last of Us series. He stated that he is now more confident in adapting the games and turning them into films following the series' success.
For several years in a row, adapting games into films or series has been a failure until it became something of a curse. But the most recent series, The Last of Us, has finally broken that curse and achieved record numbers and results. This will also encourage those responsible for other works and give them the confidence to continue, as the director of the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima film stated.
To prevent the failure of any spin-offs from PlayStation exclusives, Sony established a dedicated department and studio to work on its game films. This contributed significantly to the success of its games, which were transformed into cinematic products, as well as the involvement of those who work on these games in filming and producing them.
Among Sony's upcoming exclusive projects will be the film Ghost of Tsushima, based on its exclusive. John Wick director Chad Stahelski will be working on it. In a recent interview, Stahelski said the following:
I hope The Last of Us sheds more light on future video game cinematics. I'm currently working on Rainbow Six and Ghost of Tsushima, both big projects that I really hope come to fruition. But Ghost has an incredible story. It's an anti-samurai film and has great themes.
We're very interested in this now that Last of Us has pushed the movie business to its limits. Yes, the video game-turned-movie curse has been kind of lifted. You just need to give the business some love and attention.
The film is still in production, and Sony hasn't announced a release date yet. Do you think it will be a success?
