Numerous leaks over the course of about a year and a half have indicated that NetherRealm Studios' next game will be Mortal Kombat 12, while studio founder and creative director Ed Boon has also confirmed that it will either be that or Injustice 3.
With Mortal Kombat 11 nearly three years old, many fans of the series are wondering... when is the developer set to reveal its next game? And with all the questions and speculation, if you were hoping for an announcement at The Game Awards next week, there's some bad news for you.
Fighting series director and godfather Ed Boon revealed on Twitter that the studio will not be announcing anything at The Game Awards on December 8.
Thanks for looking forward to it, but we're not ready to announce NetherRealm Studios' next game just yet.
Speaking of Mortal Kombat, a Reddit player picked up on the words of another leaker via a forum. Where he said that the character Reiko will appear in the next part of the MK series again after her last appearance in the fourth main part. He also said the phrase “see you next year” in reference to the fact that we may see the game released next year, or it may even be revealed or announced in the aforementioned year. Unfortunately, we still don’t know the reason for the lack of information about the game.
Despite the absence of studio NetherRealm, it looks like the upcoming event will be filled with several major announcements, with reports pointing to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Diablo 4, and Final Fantasy 16, along with Kojima Productions' next game and more.
