A Devil May Cry developer revealed during a discussion session with a studio about the difficulty of developing games for the PlayStation 3 hardware. It was said that it was very difficult to handle, and this frustrated the developers.

Director Hideaki Itsuno, who has helmed several chapters in the Devil May Cry series, recently met with a developer from Bokeh Game Studio. During the meeting, the developers talked about the PlayStation 3 and reminisced about memories with development equipment.

The pair discussed many topics, though when talking about hardware in general, Itsuno began by revealing what Capcom had done when trying to learn about the first PlayStation consoles sent to developers. where he said:

It was strange working with PS1 and PS2. We were working with so many semi-transparent layers. We could only group them together to do visual effects.

On the contrary, we couldn't do that from PlayStation 3 onwards. Everyone struggled during that generation. We were very disappointed.

The third device in the family was strange on several levels. For example, for developers, it was difficult for them to understand the development mechanism on it. As for gamers, the device was too large and came in many different shapes and sizes, and it was also very expensive.

Etsuno said he remembers the difficulty of developing the special installment of the Devil May Cry series on the PlayStation 3, as developers around the world had the same difficulties developing their games on the device.

The developer is currently working on Dragon Dogma 2, but has never commented on the possibility of releasing a new installment in the DMC series.
