Rumors of a Twisted Metal revival have been circulating for some time now. Initial reports indicated that Destruction AllStars developer Lucid Games was developing the game, and it was later said that development had been moved internally to Firesprite Studio.

While nothing has been officially announced yet by Sony, new details from job listings published by studio Firesprite appear to continue to confirm these leaks.

The job listing reveals an ad for the role of “Game Physics Programmer,” where the studio is working on a new AAA multiplayer game that appears to be built entirely in Unreal Engine 5. The attached job posting describes the game as “a bold project, aiming to break new ground in the world of multiplayer, mixing gameplay mechanics in new ways and deeply incorporating storytelling elements into a unique world.”

We’ve found more concrete evidence that the project will be Twisted Metal in the “lead designer” role, including a description that the game will feature “vehicular combat.” Of course, that’s one of the highlights of the series.

Interestingly, the job posting mentioned that Steam knowledge is essential for all candidates applying for these roles, a requirement that could indicate that the game could also be released on PC. It's worth noting that Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, had previously confirmed that games from Sony's service will launch simultaneously on PS5 and PC.

Known as studio Firesprite is working on an undisclosed live service game project that is directly supported by Sony.

We don't know when we'll see Twisted Metal, but time will tell.
