Resident Evil 4 Remake is one of the most anticipated titles of this year. The game has been compared to a remake of games we've been waiting for for years. There's Dead Space, for example, which was released this month to great acclaim. But I'm here today to talk about the upcoming remake and what we saw at the State of Play.
Resident Evil 4 Remake tells the story of Leon Kennedy, who travels to a mountainous region of Spain called Valdelobos to rescue the president's daughter, Ashley. Early announcements about the game hinted at significant and noticeable changes to the gameplay system, but many players were wondering what kind of changes and other developments there would be.
The gameplay in the remake will be darker than the original version, to create more of a horror feel, but that's actually a bit of a misnomer, as the developer has confirmed that the action is what it is, and that's what I actually saw in the last presentation. The fighting style with "Leon" will be more evasive than before, as the knife fight continues. Although it's good to hear that "Ashley" will also be solo, a bit different from the original version.
Unfortunately, it has not been revealed in detail about his playstyle, but according to expectations and the pace that Capcom is following with the new remix, it seems that there are new mechanics that will distinguish “Ashley” from “Leon” in some cases. It has also been confirmed that there are significant changes in the story and gameplay, as there are other mechanics that you will not find a place for at this time. The QTE system will be completely removed from the game (it is the player's quick response system when pressing some buttons that appear on the screen).
This system, according to Capcom's licenses, is old and will not simulate the new gameplay that Resident Evil 4 Remake will introduce. For example, the fight with Krauser was full of QTE, but with the development of the remake version, the fight will be more epic than just mashing a few buttons during a cutscene.
Confirmed changes about Resident Evil 4 Remake
- The village will be larger than the original version.
- There are fewer Quick Time Events that will require you to act quickly.
- The player will receive “snake meat” instead of eggs when killing snakes.
- Unfortunately, Calm Hookman will not be in the remake.
- You won't be able to finish the game with a knife, one of the game developers tried that and failed.
- New Game Plus confirmed.
- The Las Plagas virus will emerge from the heads of some enemies, as in the original version.
- Confirm the presence of the “blind” enemy Garrador & Regenerators with sharp claws.
- Ashley has become an excellent companion in place of her annoying counterpart in the original game. The team also plans to release the remake for future generations.
- The game cannot be played in first perspective.
- Krauser is in the game, with a larger version and a larger role. It was also confirmed that the last chapter of the original version was in the remake.
- The co-pilot's phase is present in the remake, while his role is now larger. In addition, the characters of the two police officers from the beginning of the game have been recreated in an incredible way, with a simple story for each of them.
- Confirm the existence of the photo taking phase.
- Ada's phase is present and her role has become larger in the remake.
In fact, all these new mechanics and actions give us the certainty that Capcom's pure intention is to present a truly action-packed game and the player has to immerse himself in what he will do during the events of his crazy journey through the Spanish lands. Resident Evil 4 will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4 and PC on March 24.
