It's good to see Gotham City back in the arena, but with a different and unusual hero. This time, the city's savior and guardian is not Batman, but a squad of four called the Gotham Knights.
Gotham Knights caused controversy before its release, but it also increased controversy even after its release. The reason is its content and gameplay, below we will tell you all the details related to it, so welcome to review the game.
the plot
The story begins when Bruce Wayne or Batman reveals a letter to the Gotham Knights. Where he tells them that seeing this message means his death and the end of his decades-long era. Here, the group's adventure begins with the search and investigation of the killer and the reason why he killed Batman.
The main story comes in the form of numbered issues that the player must solve and follow their mysteries, also the events will branch out to go far beyond the character of Batman. The Gotham Knights will also have to do what Batman used to do: protect the city, track down the criminals and stop them.
What caught my attention was the variety of missions, I honestly expected to get bored after spending hours playing, but I finished the game without feeling it. The reason was the variety of missions, bosses and enemies too, as well as the focus on the character and making the equipment stronger.
The game follows a level-up system, with each level you reach, the characters' abilities increase and unlock new equipment and stronger skills as well. This is accompanied by the development of the enemies' strength, forcing the player to improve their level and upgrade their equipment, including the costumes that are abundant in the game.
Playing style
The gameplay is good in many aspects and bad in others, for example, the most important thing that helps the player move between buildings is the “hook”. This mechanism that the WB Montreal development team has not managed to master, as it directs you to one place and takes off to another and is very annoying.
The game allows players to choose between 4 characters, namely Robin, Batgirl, Red Hood, and finally Nightwing. Each of them has their own special abilities and can be switched between them at any time and in any task with ease. Of course, the player has to choose the right character for the right mission.
For example, when facing Frieze who is one of the bosses, the player will have to choose a character among the four who has firepower. This is because the aforementioned president is snowy and you won't be able to take him down if you choose well.
CUSTOMIZATION AND SKILLS
The character can be customized, so in addition to the skills acquired by leveling up, players will have certain techniques that can be attached to their clothes. Such as increasing the health meter or increasing weapon capabilities and others.
Gotham Knights also offers some challenges that, upon completing them, you unlock one of the 4 special abilities. These abilities the player can use effectively when facing a large group of enemies at the same time.
Each character has quick short-range attacks that can be activated by pressing the square button. There are long-range attacks that can be employed by pressing the triangle button. Each character has their own different attacks, as well as the circle button to avoid hits.
In addition to these moves, some other hidden moves can be performed, such as falling on enemies or assassinating them from behind. There is also a counter for a special move that is filled by avoiding enemy attacks by pressing the circle button, this counter gives you the ability to perform a special attack by pressing the triangle button and R1.
For quick navigation, you can use the bike that you will summon using the arrows. However, there is no other way to move faster from one location to another, especially since the Gotham Knights game map is quite large. The Gotham area is divided according to the enemies into the south, north, east and west regions.
The development team is credited with always following the dark environment as in previous Batman games, but I realized that this environment only suits the character of Batman himself. Especially with such violent frame drops, imagine if the frame rate on the PS5 was only 26 frames per second. This is lower than the 30fps that one developer was talking about and criticized by the gaming community.
What annoyed me was the mechanism for activating the main missions. For example, the game forces you to travel around the game's large map to find criminals. When you find them, you must interrogate them to provide information that will help activate the main task. This mechanic is very annoying and exists to make the game last longer.
There is a great variety of tasks, for example, there are missions to prevent robberies, protect people, chase vehicles and others. These missions give more XP, which in turn gives points to unlock the skill.
A glimpse of multiplayer
The multiplayer is excellent in the game, but it is difficult to find players perhaps because the game has not yet been released. But the idea of finding someone to help you in difficult missions is excellent and good as an idea with the RPG genre and open world invested in the game.
Graphics and sounds
As for the graphics, they are definitely not next-gen graphics. For me, Batman Arkham Knight is better than that game in terms of graphics, performance, and gameplay. So I don't know what the development team was thinking to make the game a next-gen title, especially since the last-gen version was canceled.
As for voice acting, the voice acting never quite matches the characters' lip movements. Well, the team tried to add some fun as the character roams around the map cracking some jokes, just like our friend Spider-Man.
But the background music in the game, especially the one that plays at the beginning of battles, is one of the best. Plus, the cinematic music is amazing and makes you feel like you're watching a great movie from every angle.
Positives
- Wide variety of main and side quests.
- The freedom to switch between characters at any time.
- Great skills possessed by each character make the player feel like there is a lot to discover.
- Various costumes for each character and their abilities.
Negatives
- The main story is very short.
- Limited movement style.
- Difficulty navigating between areas on the map with the lack of a quick navigation feature.
- The difficulty of activating the main tasks and forcing the player to search and complete the normal tasks to find the main task.
- The game's graphics never indicate that it is intended for the new generation.
- Bad dubbing.
- A sharp drop in tires.
- Several technical errors.
Final classification – 7

Good
Gotham Knights disappointed me a lot, it was supposed to complete Batman's journey in the same vein as his previous games, but instead it was full of bugs, mediocre gameplay, bad graphics and also a sharp drop in frames, it is definitely not a title dedicated to the current generation, the game needs Batman for sure...
