As the gaming industry advances and moves ever closer to realism, game development takes a long time until the product is presented in its best form with the best features. You can imagine, for example, that just one vehicle in Gran Turismo 7 took 270 days to develop!!
With the Gran Turismo series celebrating its 25th anniversary last month, Polyphony Digital invited Japanese media to take a tour of its offices. While the CEO led the way, Kazunori Yamauchi The interviews provided some details about where the series is headed. We also got some insight into the development of the latest Gran Turismo 7.
The interview was translated by gtplanet, and the GT designer said he believes there is a gap between what he imagines and what fans want. But it is “healthy” to have this difference and he mentioned how experimental the series is.
Yamayyoshi mentioned that Polyphony Digital's resources are limited. Additionally, the time it takes to build a car from scratch in the game can now take up to 270 days. He also said that the current rate of car creation is about 60 new cars per year, but that the rate of new cars in Gran Turismo 7 does not reflect that, as the game has seen 30 new cars in the nine months since its launch.
In the end, the designer also stated that the game will not have 1000 vehicles, which means that it will not continue to support it until the number of vehicles reaches the mentioned number. Of course, the reason is that it is not a service game with a support plan that spans decades.
The game was released last year exclusively for the PlayStation 5, and it was announced that sales of the series had reached 90 million copies worldwide.
