Last year was not considered the best for a giant company like Ubisoft, but the company has some important titles like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which is being developed by the famous Massive studio that worked on The Division.

GamesRadar spoke to creative director Magnus Jansén in a new interview, who reveals that the project has been in production for at least five years, as that time has been spent creating an entirely new installment of Pandora and creating the tools to bring the title to life and interactivity.

At the heart of this effort was Snowdrop… our game engine. When we met Lightstorm, Snowdrop showed our partners that we were willing to push the frontier of technology. It was and continues to be the core foundation for our ongoing collaboration.

Along the way, Ubisoft Massive has learned from Lightstorm and Disney. In addition to flying through the skies with alien creatures as we’re used to in Avatar, players will explore the jungles of Western Pandora. The game world will be animated and interactive, with a skill tree that’s driven by player and character progression.

We remind you that the game Avatar is an open-world action-adventure game inspired by James Cameron's Avatar series. The game is being developed by Massive Entertainment and will be published by Ubisoft for current PC and home platforms, as it was scheduled to be released last year.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is set to release between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Reports have indicated that the game has encountered issues that likely led to a delay.
