It's only been a few days since the new Call of Duty series was released. Despite that, we've heard a lot of different rumors about the possibility of a new installment in the series being released next year. And now publisher Activision has officially confirmed its intention to release a major title for 2023.
In a previous report published on Bloomberg by journalist insider Jason Schreyer. It has been confirmed that Call of Duty 2022, which was supposed to be Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, will be the last in the annual series. As a new installment in the series will not be released for two consecutive years after the next installment is released later this year.
During its Q3 earnings call, Activision confirmed that it plans to release the next major release in the Call of Duty series in 2023. It said in a statement via VGC:
Activision is looking to build on its current momentum in 2023, with plans for the coming year including the strongest live Call of Duty yet, the next full premium release of the annual mega series, and even more free experiences across all platforms.
While it is not yet clear what the nature of the second edition will be and what form it will take, we can confirm that previous reports from Bloomberg, which confirmed that next year will not contain a new major edition of the series, are not true.
There has been speculation that the publisher is working on a separate Call of Duty Zombies entry for the series. Much like it did before developing Modern Warfare 2's campaign, it will be expanded further in 2023.
