During the currently ongoing hearing between Microsoft and the FTC, Microsoft stated that Sony is expected to release the PlayStation 6 in 2028.
Among the agreements Microsoft has reached with Sony is a 10-year deal, which it has indicated will guarantee the release of Activision titles on the next generation of PlayStation platforms. The following was stated in Microsoft's statements during the hearing:
“This offer will in any case exceed the planned launch period for the next generation of consoles (in 2028). Consequently, Call of Duty will be published on the following PlayStation consoles if released during the term of the agreement. The agreement will also ensure that Call of Duty games will be offered on PlayStation at the same level as on Xbox.”
We don't know what basis Microsoft's proposal that the PlayStation 6 will be released in 2028 was built on, but it seems that Microsoft also plans to launch the next generation of Xbox devices on the same date.
This isn't the first time there's been talk about the possibility of launching the next generation of PlayStation devices in 2028. As there were secret documents that surfaced during defense sessions as part of Microsoft's acquisition of Activision, which confirmed that the next generation of PlayStation devices will be launched in 2028.
In the same context, some new documents revealed that Sony does not intend to send data from the PlayStation 6 device to Activision developers if the deal goes through. This is to maintain the strict confidentiality of the innovative technologies that will be present in the device and in the competing team's system.
If the new generation of home platforms is launched this year, this means that their standard life will be 8 years, an expected period and identical to the standard life of previous devices.
Do you expect the PS6 to be released in 2028?
