South Korean holding company Krafton, which is responsible for the PUBG game, has created what it calls “the first Canadian studio dedicated to AAA games” and is based in Montreal. It is now open for employment to fill many spaces within it.

We previously learned that PUBG publisher Krafton will continue to invest in flagship titles despite the lackluster sales of its latest game, Callisto Protocol. In fact, the Korean company has opened the first Canadian game studio specializing in AAA titles.

The studio will also be called Krafton Montréal Studio, and will be led by Patrik Méthé, a former director at Ubisoft Montréal. The director has taken on the role of director of major games such as Far Cry 3, 4, 5 and New Dawn, as well as last year's Rainbow Six Extraction.

The studio plans to hire 150 more people over the next three years in key positions, including animation, programming and human resources, while the studio's first project will be a video game based on the Korean fantasy novel series The Bird that Drinks Tears.

Commercially, Krafton’s first AAA game, Callisto Protocol, has underperformed. But the publisher confirmed in its 2023 team that it has delivered on its commitment to grow its core game slate. It will also enhance its global publishing capabilities, as well as invest in Web3 and deep learning technology.
